Subject: state of the art quick-access-menu
From: Fabian Merki (fabian_at_merkisoft.ch)

hi

as i can see in the mailing list there is always a (huge) discussion about which key to use for what.

i think we should try to get a menu like todays mobile phone have (see T68i from sony-ericsson http://www.sonyericsson.com/us/spg.jsp?page=T68i_Explore&B=ie&PID=9932&LM=PSM_V&gal=105)

this one has a kind of cursor and a menu with 9 icons (could also just be a word).
on the recorder in the wps and in the tree you could press f3 or whatever to get into such a menu. by using the arow buttons (on recorder) you reach those functions and by pressing play you execute the selected function.

the same style could be used to edit text (filenames, dirnames). this would be like some playstation games...
the difference would be that you just see the whole alphabeth (with a switch for numbers, special characters, lower-, upercase) and you could select each char by using the arrow and play buttons.

what do you think?

fabian
